ACSS/AW is employed in overhead distribution and transmission lines. It's engineered to function continuously at high temperatures up to 250°C without strength loss; it exhibits less sag under emergency electrical loads compared to ACSR/AW; it's self-damping when prestretched during installation; and its final sags aren't affected by long-term aluminum creep. These benefits make ACSS/AW particularly useful in reconductoring projects needing increased current with existing tensions and clearances, new line applications where structures can be optimized due to reduced conductor sag, new line applications requiring high emergency loadings, and lines prone to aeolian vibration issues. ACSS/AW provides strength characteristics akin to ACSS, along with slightly enhanced ampacity and corrosion resistance thanks to the aluminum-clad steel core wires.
